ABOUT
TAMICA "TJ" SMITH JONES
Tamica “TJ” Smith Jones, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, is the Founder and CEO of TJ Sports Complete, Inc., a premier sports business coaching and consulting concierge firm established in 2005. The company was initially created to bridge the knowledge and access gap in educational and collegiate sports by equipping scholars, student-athletes, parents, and support networks with the expertise needed to successfully navigate the ever-changing landscape.
Over the past decade, TJ has expanded her impact by serving as a trusted advisor to colleges and universities, providing staff and leadership development, executive coaching, and strategic solutions.
Through TJ Sports Complete, Inc., she also partners with nonprofit organizations and for-profit companies to drive business development, strengthen operational strategy, and create scalable growth opportunities for entrepreneurs and sports-focused enterprises.
A former scholarship athlete and head coach, Jones is a proven transformational leader with leadership roles as Chief Assistant to the General Manager for Arena Operations at the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena (2025), Kennesaw State University’s first Athletics Chief Operating Officer—where she led its strategic transition from FCS to FBS (2021–2025)—and the University of California, Riverside’s Director of Intercollegiate Athletics (2015–2021). During her tenure in Los Angeles, she was honored as a Vanguard Award recipient, recognizing the 100 most influential African Americans in Los Angeles. She also served at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Affairs (2013–2015) and at Clark Atlanta University as Director of Athletics (2008–2013).
Jones is dedicated to the holistic experience, engaging in ways that foster belonging. Her work supporting the complete educational and collegiate mission—both socially and through civic engagement—has been recognized nationally by Women Leaders in College Sports as the 2017 Division I Administrator of the Year. More recently, Sports Illustrated and Empower Onyx featured her in their Elle-evate: 100 Most Influential Black Women in Sports series (2022).
Driven by the same fire that fueled her as an athlete, she authored her memoir, A Ball and a Dream, sharing her journey as a source of hope for the next generation. Jones is excited to continue impacting elite athletes and leaders at the next level in professional sports.
